Radical Eating, Delicious Food

At Bliss we serve delicious organic, vegan food, often local, usually seasonal and fair trade whenever possible. We believe that by choosing to eat this way, we are contributing to a better, fairer, more sustainable world – this is radical eating.

By choosing to avoid meat, you eat food which is:

  • healthier - people who avoid meat suffer less from illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer (and they also consume fewer of the antibiotics and other chemicals ingested by the animals used for meat)
  • better for the environment - studies show that not only is the production of cheap meat responsible for some of the worst environmental problems facing the world (such as polluted water systems and soil erosion due to overuse of chemicals, over-intensive farming and overgrazing), avoiding meat is one of the most effective ways of reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • more compassionate - most people would agree that even the work of well-run abattoirs (and many are not) involves a degree of cruelty

By choosing to avoid meat, fish and dairy products, you eat food which is:

  • even healthier - the China Study (the biggest study of nutrition ever undertaken) showed that a diet which avoids meat, fish and dairy products is the healthiest in terms of longevity and avoidance of disease
  • even better for the environment - dairy cows emit a significant amount of methane each day, a serious problem since methane is a greenhouse gas which is over 20 times more effective in trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide and, besides, the dairy industry and meat industry are intertwined and the dairy industry is also responsible for environmental problems such as polluted water systems and soil erosion due to overuse of chemicals, over-intensive farming and overgrazing
  • truly cruelty-free - since a vegan diet involves avoiding all animal and fish products, no cruelty is involved
  • more ethical - a recent book entitled The Ethics of What We Eat by Peter Singer and Jim Mason concluded that a vegan diet is the most ethical because it makes less of a detrimental impact on the environment and is truly cruelty-free

By choosing to eat organic food, you eat food which is:

  • healthier than conventionally grown food - many scientists argue that the build-up of pesticides and herbicides can cause long-term health problems (organic food is grown without the use of pesticides and herbicides)
  • more nutritious than conventionally grown food - recent studies in Europe show that organic food has higher levels of vitamins and antioxidants than conventionally grown food
  • better for the environment than conventionally grown food - organic farming does not use fertilisers or techniques such as battery farming which are causing severe environmental problems around the world
  • guaranteed free from GM products - whilst current labelling laws mean that conventional foods may contain GM products, this is not the case with organic food
